Artichoke Bloom

Summer, letting the artichokes bloom and blow for the bees. I think of tidal creatures, anemones and starfish, swaying in the salt current just beyond the gate.

In 2017, Kim won the SCWR/Treefort Wild West Prize for Creative Nonfiction and was named a finalist in both Proximity Magazine's Essay Prize competition and the Barry Lopez Creative Nonfiction Contest. She lives in Eugene, Oregon, where she wrangles her Labrador Retriever, Mercedes, and scouts for Great Blue Herons.
