My husband and I frequently share a not-quite-joking exchange:
“I’m feeling . . . sad.”
“You can’t be sad. It’s my turn to be depressed.”
“Oh, sorry. You’re right. I was depressed just the other day.”
We laugh, even when it isn’t funny.
